Wonderful Lives From The Charles Dickens Museum

--

While a lot of arts venues have gone back to in-person only, I’m really thankful for those who have adopted a hybrid approach. Charles Dickens Museum in London is one of these and it not only allows arts venues to get much needed cash and reach a global audience — but to increase accessibility. Whilst you still need a gadget, funds for ticket and WIFI, I very much hope that this enables wider reach and more people to see great events.

Using their beautiful venue, amazing music and lighting, and versatile actor Dominic Gerrard, you can watch and listen to Christmas ghost stories such as The Signalman, moving The Chimes or encounter Scrooge plus all the ghosts in A Christmas Carol.

Best of all in this version of A Christmas Carol you have the lighthouse scene where Christmas cheer is celebrated despite harsh and stormy surroundings. Scrooge is a puppet, surprisingly expressive. One of my best moments is seeing puppet Scrooge don his night cap (it was a bit of a fight), and later dapper up in his best scarf and hat to bring Christmas to the Crachits (and everyone, God bless us!) With the decorated rooms of the Dickens Museum house behind them, it’s surprisingly atmospheric and mysterious.

There are even online lectures! such as Dickens Christmas (in July) with descendant of Dickens — Lucinda Dickens Hawksley. Kindly run to include Australian Dickens fans!
